"A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair"
[from Trees by Joyce Kilmer 1886-1919]
Theresa, age 10, caught these images of a new Robin's nest in our cherry tree yesterday. The interesting thing about this particular nest is that we recognize the long pieces of string from a supply the girls were using to embellish their fairy houses. Every year, we faithfully provide nesting materials for the birds, carefully cutting lengths of string and other materials into safe and manageable pieces. As you will see, these snarled and snaking strands are anything but manageable. I hope they will not cause problems for the birds later.
How neat to be able to see the string from the ground! Our trees are all SO tall, maybe if we "strewed" some bright pink or fluorescent orange yarn in the yard, we might be able to see them as you have. Thanks for posting the photos of the nest Alice!
