The other day I mentioned that we could not find our Advent wreath in the garage this past Sunday. We have been lighting a single purple candle in a glass candleholder all week. Imagine my surprise when I woke from an afternoon nap (an essential afternoon nap) to find this gorgeous wreath handmade by Margaret (11) and Marie (9)! They gathered greens, miniature pinecones, and tender sprigs of holly from our yard and created their own hidden candle holders from inverted and trimmed plastic cups.
The candles are handmade as well, so the entire creation is all theirs this year.
It's beautiful! The girls did a great job!

Gorgeous! What wonderful girls -- I saw in an old craft book the other day the idea of using wine glasses turned upside down to hold candles .... cool, eh?

That wreath is lovely, Alice. What a nice surprise. And that nap? I totally understand what you mean by "necessary."

Beautiful wreath, made all the more so by the beautiful spirit in which it was created. You've done such a good job with your girls Alice.

That's the nicest advent wreath I have seen this year. I expect it smells lovely too, with the beeswax candles and the greens.

What a wonderful gift to wake up to! (Not to mention, the gift of napping! *smile*).
It's just lovely.

Your girls are the best!
We are using rolled beeswax too but they are burning so fast that some solid beeswax pillars are on the way!

Oh how beautiful. What lovely daughters to take on the task and surprise you.

Wow! Hats off to your daughters. This is a good example for me to keep in mind to cure me of my "Mom must be on the ball and perfect" syndrome. A lost Advent wreath didn't "ruin" Advent for your family. You improvised one week and then your girls made a lovely handmade creation the next week. Hopefully, I'll remember this picture the next time I start beating myself up for misplacing/forgetting something.

Your blog is lovely- and didn't even know you had one 'going'. I absolutely adore your cottage pictures and the above picture of the candlelight is adorably familiar to a Tasha Tudor book.
Peace and Blessings!
