My latest Long Island Catholic column is the rather oddly named "A compass in the cards."
The "compass" is a gift we can all give to our children!

What a special man your dad must have been. The world could use a few more like him.
God rest his soul.
God bless,
Jane

Dear Alice, your writing here brings up all sorts of thoughts about my father. He's a retired attorney, grew up with mother who so trusted in her Catholic faith. He remembers serving at the altar with Archbishop Sheen! How did he not recieve or retain a strong faith? How can he see the Eucharistic as merely symbolical?
Long have I known, it will not be my words... but I continue to pray he finds true north.
