Dear Friends,
Here are the printable documents for the Easter Vigil Notebook Project. Taken together, they form the "skeleton" for a missal of sorts, one that is surprisingly easy to put together.
Liturgy of Light
The documents may be found here. (Please scroll down.)
Liturgy of the Word
This section consists entirely of reading the selections and psalms asking for narration (or *selected* narration, allowing the children in the family to take turns) to demonstrate understanding and help your child internalize the readings. No printable pages are needed here, and I would not recommend attempting to write down all the narrations! If you do, you may never get past this section. (This is a departure from my original advice. Certainly, if you have the time, it would not hurt to have typed narrations, but please do not let the typing prevent you from getting to the rest of the project! Children learn from the process of narration itself and do not need typed work product.)
Celebration of Baptism
Liturgy of the Eucharist
Eucharistic Prayer I, First Part
Eucharistic Prayer I, Second Part
Use a missalette and the plan to guide you through these sections, teaching your children naturally. As you attend Mass during Lent, emphasize the parts of the Mass taking place every Sunday. This will help the children pay more attention during Mass and understand the significance of the additional elements included in the Easter Vigil. (It also makes this the perfect last minute First Communion Notebook project! Add a page about Eucharistic Adoration and another on Reconciliation, and you are all set!)
If you see your parish music director at Mass tomorrow, do not forget to ask about the hymns planned for the Easter Vigil this year. Your children will enjoy singing songs they practice at home. The lyrics and music (undoubtedly available through a google search or photocopied from the back of your missalette) make a meaningful addition to the notebooks, particularly if you plan on bringing them to Mass.
Cheerleader's note:
It is not too late to start this project, if you are thinking about it! Easter is over a month away!
Thanks for the note of encouragement! We are in the midst of the project. I am enjoying it so much and so are my dc. I hope that my CCD class loves the abbreviated version that they will be receiving. This is just way to exciting for me.
