At long last, the post about Advent Cubes is available at O Night Divine.
With all my talk of buying the blocks in advance, I am a bit concerned about having oversold the idea. It is fortunate that the sweetest, most generous mothers in the world will be reading it!
I just read the post. Lots of great actvities incorporated into one project! I do have a question though (hope I didn't miss it in the text) - is this canvas banner lying flat on something (table, floor) so that the blocks just rest on it? Or is is hung and the blocks attached somehow?

Sorry I posted twice, Alice. I thought I could fix a spelling mistake - silly me.

Not at all, Mary. I am happy to hear from you!
As of now, the blocks and canvas are lying on a table, because I plan to use them throughout the season and do not want to attach them just yet. When Advent begins, we will be hanging the canvas and taping the blocks directly onto the "tree." I actually have special double sided scrapbooking stickers for this purpose, but, with such light blocks, Scotch tape would probably work just as well.

I read your post at O Night Divine and absolutely love the idea. So many great ideas rolled into one. I love how you've brought so much together and presented it with such simplicity. Now, if I can just find those cubes! ;)

Alice -- how could you THINK that we woudn't love this idea (I think I like even more than the Saint Spoons!).
We already have our Jesse Tree part ready, but I love the idea of having different things on the blocks and having the kids choose one every day and then doing that -- reading about a saint, having a special treat, doing a craft....the mind is cooking now! Thanks, as per usual, Alice for your sharing of your crafty mind....

Alice, I just ordered the 1 inch blocks from Factory Direct. There were none available at Michaels or Joannes. We can't wait to begin our project.
I think I will devote a table top to this.

Alice, we did find the blocks today, but I need to get the Sharpies still. Thanks so much for sharing this. There are so many learning opportunities in there.

Thank you so much, everyone!
Jennifer, I like the very sharp "Sharpies," but you will note that they do bleed slightly (not enough to ruin the piece, but enough to be a bit of a bother). I was thinking maybe gel pens or colored pencils would work as well.

Oh, Alice, I don't know whether to thank you or to fall over at my own lack of energy and talent. :-0
All kidding aside, you have amazed me again with your creativity and beautiful ideas. Thank you! (I'll fall over later during the actual implementation....)

Alice, I thought you'd like to see how the kids and I used your beautiful idea. Thanks again!
