"Karol Wojtyla's parents were intensely religious, unusually so, in a time where religious devotion was normal in Polish families. Upon entering Wojtyla's small apartment, there was a bowl of holy water in the hall blessed by a priest. His mother had created a small altar in the parlor where the family would gather for morning and evening prayer." (From Frontline article, "John Paul II: The Millennial Pope" by Helen Whitney.)
Tomorrow, February 11, is the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. It is a name day for Marie, so we will be making special Holy Water Fonts.
Materials:
paintable wooden plaques from the craft store
empty film canisters
Lourdes holy card
glue
embellishments--paint, decorative stones, or plastic jewels
holy water
Each child will glue a picture of Our Lady of Lourdes to the center of the plaque, decorating the border with jewels, paint or attractive stones. Black film canisters will be painted a pleasing color and then affixed to the bottom of the plaques with hot glue. Once filled with holy water, these fonts make a perfect addition to a child's room.
Approximate cost per project: $2.00
Please visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes to place a prayer petition.
Our Lady of Lourdes, the Immaculate Conception, pray for us!
Wow! I'm truly inspired by your craft projects. How do you come up with them?
Loving you blog,
