"All children, except one, grow up. They soon know that they will grow up, and the way Wendy knew was this. One day when she was two years old she was playing in a garden, and she plucked another flower and ran with it to her mother. I suppose she must have looked rather delightful, for Mrs. Darling put her hand to her heart and cried, 'Oh, why can't you remain like this for ever!' This was all that passed between them on the subject, but henceforth Wendy knew that she must grow up. You always know after you are two. Two is the beginning of the end."
--J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan
The other day, two-year-old Eileen announced, "I turned into a big sister!"
Amused by her turn of phrase, I asked, "How did that happen?"
She responded quite sensibly: "I growed up."
This is Lissa, hacking in to share the glorious, wonderful, marvelous news that Alice gave birth to a beautiful baby boy on Friday, February 6th.
Jude Gerard Gunther 8 lbs 14 oz Born shortly before 6 pm on Feb. 6th. (The "before 3 pm" that went out in the early bulletin on the day of his birth was not exactly a mistake—it was shortly before 3 pm here in the Pacific time zone when Alice called from the East Coast with the exciting news. Whoops!)
Isn't he beautiful? Alice and Jude are home now and doing well. This photo was taken on Alice's cell phone the day Jude was born; I'm sure Alice will treat us to more photos soon—along with the story of how the baby came to be named after St. Jude and St. Gerard. (Here's a hint.)
Congratulations to all the Gunthers, and welcome, baby Jude!
